Autumn, time for…

a little Magick.

Emergence.

I love this time of the year. Day by day, the mossy lawn reveals what lies beneath. It’s full of secrets.

Usually the toadstools form a perfect circle. This year they have decided to march across the lawn.

Did you know, that mushrooms/fungi are more closely related to people than they are plants…just saying…and that they owned the earth before the trees arrived?

On and on they go.

Where are they taking me, I wonder.

Oh…..

The poisoned tutu.

The veined brains.

The ghostly remnants.

 The hidden clusters.

The sea of tranquility.

Autumn, and so the Beech leaves fall, like rain, such a soothing, musical sound.

Now is the time for reflection…

and for being grateful.

Do you see that new step inside the kitchen door? An extremely intelligent plumber embedded the new pipes there, running from the boiler on the left, to the washing machine, sink and dishwasher on the right. That little idea saved us from having the kitchen tiles and the concrete floor beneath ripped up. The leaking pipes are now obsolete. Phew! Huge water leak sorted.

And Finally…

It’s time for being thankful, too.

Thankful for wonderful blogging friends who take the time to send good wishes and beautiful gifts. Thank you Kitty, for your support, always, Angel friend of mine.

Also to Anne and Roomie, and of course, My Boy….always there for me, and mine. Bless you both, always.

You too, Claudine, love and huge hugs to you.

One fine day, we shall all meet. Something to look forward too.

  1. I was thrilled to receive your package, the hummingbird has pride of place and reflects the light beautifully, just what I need this time of the year. Thanks again. Oh, work sounds horrendous, hopefully things will calm down, they have to sometime. I suppose a holiday is out until new staff are recruited? Here’s to you enjoying your weekends at least! xxx

  2. Hello, friend — so nice to see our little somethings in your hands. It has been such a busy busy time, I still haven’t gotten Flighty’s birthday something together. Sigh. I’ve lost two of my staff and between interviewing new candidates and doing the job of those staffers and training new temporary staff (roomie!) and another co-worker, my brain is about mush by the time I get home. So it’s taken a while to catch up to your recovery (mis)adventures. Hugs to you.

  3. They sure are. Thanks for visiting.xxx

  4. These are some interesting mushrooms you have growing in your yard.

  5. I haven’t seen red toadstools like that since an enormous one appeared on my parents’ lawn. I persuaded my then 3 yr old that it was Big Ear’s house and still have the photo I took of him standing next to it. So sweet, lovely happy days. Your pictures have brought those happy memories back to me, thank you. I love that your mushrooms are marching off but how lovely to have had fairy rings in previous years! Hope that you’re still bearing up, C xxx

    • What a lovely story Caro, I could picture the scene so clearly. I did miss my fairy rings, I would love to know why they have taken to marching instead! xxx

A lovely post with some great photographs.
I just love the Autumn season with it’s wonderful colours.

Friends and family can and do give us some wonderful support – where would we be without them.

Take Care, keep healing well and gaining strength and mobility

    Cheers …

    All the best Jan

    • Thanks Jan, I love Autumn too, such an atmospheric season, so mystical too. Yes, we all need our family and friends, where would we be without them? xxx

  7. Ahh dearest “magic gardener”… I’m sure you didn’t receive from me the mushrooms seeds 😉 but these actually look absolutely gorgeous!
As soon you will be back into the business, you may prepare the garden for the winter time.
I hope so much that the Austin Macauley Publishers Ltd. will soon organize for me a book presentation in the UK (eh eh eh I’m a dreamer). My goal is to be able one day to use the royalties to help the people who care for animals in the rescues, as you do! I’m sure that is so much need of financial sustain… but first, I need to get people know me and my work!
Will meet very soon, dear Dina, now get better… the “little ones” are needing you in a great shape!
    Hugs and kisses <3 claudine

    • Those toadstools are gorgeous, it’s a shame they don’t last very long, just a few days.
I do hope your books do well and that you come to the UK, how wonderful it would be to help animals with your royalties. I know our rescue along with all the others are always in need of money. Hopefully I will be back on my feet soon. Thanks Claudine.xxx

  8. Mushrooms are really fascinating. Apparently what we see is just the tip of the iceberg, that the real “body” is this vast network of tiny underground tubes. Glad you are getting lots of support from your friends.

  9. I’ve seen various objects –like salt and pepper shakers — made to look like those red toadstools, but I always thought they were the figments of someone’s imagination. Clearly that isn’t so! We have plenty of ordinary white, tan, and gray fungi, but I rarely see anything with color. Lucky you — and didn’t I laugh at your little fairies atop them.

Problem-solving’s an art sometimes, and that solution your plumber cam up with is artful indeed. And so many lovely gifts you have. Gifts of any sort do seem to help with healing, don’t they? Especially when the arrive as surprises, they’re little grace notes for the day.

I’m so glad you seem to be doing well. Healing’s a bit of a miracle itself, don’t you think?

    • They are gorgeous mushrooms for sure! Glad to have you smiling re my fairies. I still bless that plumber, what an upheaval he prevented. I totally agree re unexpected surprises, they certainly help put a spring in your step, grace notes is a lovely description. It’s astonishing how the body mends itself, truly miraculous when you think about it. Thanks Linda.xxx

  10. Those red toadstools look as if they are luring you on to some magical place. A good incentive to venture out on your new hip! I wonder what in the soil has resulted in that particular line up. In any case, it’s lovely. But your toadstools look much like the amanitas that we had in Alaska–poisonous and powerful hallucinogens–while looking like little fairy houses. Hope your recuperation is going well.

    • The toadstools did seem to be laying a patch for me to follow. I’ve never seen so many! These ones are deadly too, pretty but utterly lethal. All is going well, I can’t wait to be able to walk unaided again. Thanks Brenda.xxx

  11. A lovely post and I’m happy that you’ve many blogging friends who send messages, gifts and wish you well. It’s also good that the plumber could sort the pipes so that there was less upheaval. Love the toadstools and the magical way you describe them, which is not surprising as you’re such a good story teller. I hope all is going well with getting around.

    • Thanks Linda. Some people are just born angels! Oh, I could have hugged that plumber to death! All is going well, slowly, slowly catch your monkey!xxx

  12. You have described the feelings of Autumn so well….a time of reflection. I love mushrooms, there’s something mystical about them and they need to receive great respect.
As for Magic – I spy a magical hummingbird in your header picture….:) We who have homes, running water, food and love in our lives have much to be grateful for….and I also feel that what we put out we receive back. You my friend, put so much good into the world and so it is only natural that you should receive positive blessings. 🙂
Hope your hip is progressing beautifully and that you are creating beautiful things. Love to you xxxx

    • Autumn is such a beautiful season, so atmospheric and changeable. I am a mushroom fan too, such astonishing little lifeforms. How true, we all have so much to be grateful for, so many people have nothing, sadly. Thanks Janet, things are progressing nicely here.xxx

  13. What a beautiful autumnal post. My favourite time of year.
I love the marching toadstools, got lost in the moment.
So pleased your leak is sorted………water travels a long way 🙁

You have wonderful blogging friends………as someone said to me only yesterday “It is always nice to be remembered”

    Sending well wishes Dina

    • Thanks Cheryl, it was fun following the marching toadstools, right across the lawn they went, quite magical. Sorting that leak is a huge relief, ripping the kitchen out at the moment would have driven me mad. I am lucky having such wonderful blogging friends, and how true, it’s always lovely to be remembered. xxx

  14. Lovely thoughtful post. I love the mushrooms going from a circle to marching along the lawn in a line, and the fact that they are closer to us than plants. The world is a wonderfully mysterious place. I hope you are slowly recovering from your hip op….I guess one thing about not being able to get around very much….. you see things you wouldn’t normally notice. Best wishes for your recovery.

    • Thanks Gerrie, mushrooms are remarkable life forms aren’t they, I’ve read that the spores can stay alive for decades! The world is a deliciously mysterious place, there are so many things we don’t know. You are spot on re noticing things more, I am becoming obsessed with the hoards of spiders that are invading the house. xxx

  15. I love this post! So beautiful and poetic. And such beautiful toadstools, and each one a miracle! Love them!

Hooray for your plumber’s ability to think through a problem all the way to a clever solution. I wish he’d move here and run for office!

You are so very welcome for the book; I hope it distracted and inspired, and offered comfort. Looks like you have many friends who wish you the swift healing and joy you deserve. 😁

Blessings on your continued healing and growing strength, dear Dina!

    • That wonderful book was most inspiring!!! It’s the type of book you constantly go back too, so thanks you again. I shall dispatch the plumber immediately, you could do with some level headed politicians over there, how you all put up with Trump is beyond me, what a monstrous creature! Thanks Kitty. Huge hugs.xxx

  16. The march of the funghi is lovely in all their variations.
You sound so much better. How’s the mobility progressing?
Interesting picture of your plumber’s ploy, I must make a mental note of that…you never know when great ideas may be required.
The dogs are well on form. Reflection is nicely portrayed.
It’s great to be spoilt, you dserve to be.
    Xxx

    • I am feeling better, the mobility is certainly improving, some days are better than others. The nights can be a pain, but hopefully all will be well soon, and worth all the hassle. That plumber deserves a medal, I really couldn’t have coped with the kitchen being torn apart, yes, it’s certainly worth bookmarking that idea!!! Thanks Menhir.xxx

  17. Glad your hip seems to be improving…. what a palaver for you.
I remember you saying about having the concrete floor all taken up and I was thinking how horrendous that would be so I am soooo pleased your plumber came up with a cunning plan! You have had some major upheavals what with digging up all the lawn and having it paved and hip replaced and so on…. you seem to cope so well with it all too!
Hope the recovery continues well! xxxx

    • I think I would have gone stark raving mad if the kitchen had to be ripped up while recuperating….so glad for that cunning plan. There is a limit to what a gal can cope with!!!! What a great idea though! Bless his little cotton socks! All is well, although it seems like life is moving in slow motion. Thanks Rosie.xxxxx

  18. Hope you feel much more comfortable soon! Amazing the way those toadstools march across your lawn. I guess your dogs have the good sense not to eat them! Hugs xx

    • Thanks Gill, it is getting easier each day. I was so surprised to see the marching toadstools! Thankfully, the dogs leave them be!xxx

  19. So intriguing to see the toadstools.I hope you feel much better soon

  20. You have Fly Agaric mushrooms? Lucky you, I haven’t seen any this year. I always expect to see pixies sitting on them but you have fairies.
I hooe your hip is on the mend.

    • There seem to be more each year here, they move about and pop up in different locations, they are always MOST welcome! I suspect I have pixies too! My hip is slowly getting there. Thanks Chloris.xxx

  21. Such a variety of fungi. I hope you are recovering well

  22. Lovely post and pictures. I also like the header picture.
I hope that you’re well on the way to being able to hippy, hippy shake again. xx

  23. Hugs! Hope the recovery process is going well…..EASY DOES IT!
Magical post…with all those ‘mushrooms’…..Some of them truly ‘magical’ I’m sure.
Love and Hugs for full recovery. 🤗🤗💕💕

  24. I hope you’re managing to get about a bit better now, it would be a shame to miss all that autumn has to offer. I love seeing those red toadstools, they’re the things out of fairy stories, aren’t they? Glad you managed to avoid having all the tiles taken up in the kitchen, that would have been a job and a half.

    • Things are certainly improving, just being able to get into the garden is a treat. Yes, fairy tales are full of toadstools. It certainly would have been a nightmare ripping the kitchen up, I think I’d have lost the plot if that had happened.xxx

  25. What a lovely gentle post. I love the toadstools marching across your lawn and especially the one with the fairies! What a clever plumber – it’s always nice when extra work and disruption can be avoided. I hope that your hip is recovering well, my friend. Take care. xx

    • Thanks Veggiemummy. I always look forward to the fairy toadstools, they are beautiful, each year there are more. I bless that plumber every day. Each day life becomes a little easier, it’s slow, but still progress.xxx
