The nights are drawing in

The garden renovation is slowly but surely getting there. “The Steps” to the left of the gates are finally finished. They are planted, turfed and the pond is now in. All the raised beds are weeded, covered with weed fabric control and finished with white stones. With luck, that area should be pretty low maintenance in the future.

The herbs are thriving in their new home and as well as enjoying the fresh herbs, the scent as we pass by has been a real bonus.

The other raised beds, with the exception of the long planter at the back are now planted, some with vegetables, some with plants. The fences are now in and all that needs finishing is the garden room [back right] in the second photo above.

The main structure is up and it now needs cladding and windows and doors fitted. Hubs got carried away with this project, it’s far bigger than I anticipated and it’s now referred to as “The Build”.

It’s going to take some work clearing all the leaves off the new turf and stones…..sighs.

We have one final panel of white stones to lay in the remaining borders which have been weeded and covered with weed control fabric, the end is finally in sight!

This is one of the borders needing white stones, I got carried away with the bay tree border and covered it with bricks, they certainly keep the weeds down!

In other news, there’s still plenty of colour in the garden.

Sam has survived a year since his gloomy diagnosis of four to eight weeks and continues to do well, although the growth has pushed up beneath his blind eye. He has plenty of pain relief and we literally take things one day at a time.

Spooky season is upon us and we’ve been enjoying pumpkin hunts, marshmallows toasted in the chimenea and of course, duck apple.

And Finally

after the summer drought we’ve had nothing but rain, rain, rain and wind with lots more on the way!

Until next time, stay safe guys.

Just stopping by to say hello and hoping all is well.
It’s been a very windy day today with more leaves coming down.
Hope the week ahead will be a good one for you.

    All the best Jan

  2. Hi, I feel like I’ve been away for ages, we moved to Holland so we’ve been incredibly busy. I’m happy to find you are still blogging and it’s good to see you are still doing the gardening and animal stuff. The bricks with holes in are interesting. I’m always on the lookout for anything through which something might grow, it’s harder to find here, everything unused goes to the tip for recycling then you buy it at virtually cost price.

  3. Hello there You !
My heart goes out to you with Sam’s journey .. I hope only the best for you and he.
Your gardens are looking amazing girl ! .. Next year is going to be so much more relaxed and easy going (I hope) when it is all settled in. Such a cute picture of you are .. and what is better than a little fire (and some marsh mellows) on a chilly afternoon. If I don’t see you until New Year , a HAPPY EVERYTHING ? LOL … take care and stay well !

    • Thanks Joy. I really hope the garden is more manageable next year, it just needs finishing off and more planting. Ok yes, you can’t beat a fire and a marshmallow or two. All the very best to you and yours.xxx

  4. Your garden is looking fabulous and it will be so much easier to look after, I’m sure. Good news about Sam, I’m so pleased that he’s still enjoying life and is doing well, fingers crossed that he continues to do so for a long time yet. I received your comment so it seems you’ve solved the issue, you’re more tech savvy than I am, I wouldn’t have known where to start.

  5. Your garden is looking amazing, you have done so much work and I’m sure that by next year everything will have settled in and be growing away nicely. Glad to see that Sam is still with you, every day is a bonus. X

  6. My gracious! Everything looks just beautiful. You planned well, and the results show it. I like the herbs in a place that allows for easy picking; their fragrance is a bonus. I like the white pavers, too. I think they add a bit of elegance, and show off so much of the foliage around them. I sure am glad to hear that Sam still is with you. Love and luck can do a good bit when it comes to extending life!

  7. I so love your garden! It looks different from one post to the next, always something happening.

First, of course, kisses and hugs galore to sweet Sam, from all of us at Full Moon.

Your garden is like a park, dear friend. You could have tour groups visiting daily to take in all the beauty you’ve organized and created here. Wow! I’m so excited to see The Build!

Envy you that rain. All looks glorious and suitably autumnal. Love the family photos, so lively and merry.

Thanks for a gorgeous post! XO

  14. It’s good to have an update on life over your way. How wonderful to have a large garden and the redesigned areas is looking good. The Summer House is coming along nicely. It’ll be another place outside to enjoy next year. Meanwhile, wishing you and family happy November days.

    • Thanks Linda. We’re hoping the garden will be easier to maintain from now on. Happy November days to you all too.xxx

I think your garden is looking good, and those herbs look so healthy, I’m sure the smell is wonderful from them.
Wonderful photographs of you all and Littl’urchin – I do like her pumpkin outfit 🙂

Enjoy your November, it has started rather wet and windy hasn’t it.

    All the best Jan

    • Thanks Jan. It’s strange seeing so much rain after the drought of the summer. Thankfully it’s remaining mild.xxx

  16. I’m loving how The Build is looking – did you make the plans yourselves? I especially like how the herb garden is up off the ground for easier access and enjoying their scent. Regarding leaves on rocks…. will you have a blower to help move those off?

Sam, you just keep amazing everyone, okay? Mwah!

  17. Your garden is looking wonderful and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished ‘build’! Littl’urchin is getting so big and the pumpkin outfit is adorable. Good old Sam; I’m glad that he’s still defying the odds. xx

    • Thanks Veggiemummy. I’m amazed at how quickly Littl’urchin is growing up. Here’s to Sam continuing to defy the odds.xxx
