A press-ganged Daughter, a broken digit and other stuff.

Well, last week Hubs was listening to the radio and heard about a brilliant opportunity for people aged between 18-24 to sail in a Regatta of 17 tall ships from Dublin to Liverpool. Daughter was called and the next day she found herself signed up! She was going to learn how to sail a tall ship!!!! WOWSA!

I’m not sure she was THAT keen really, but two enthusiastic parents bulldozed her into it. So on Friday she arrived home all packed and ready for her adventure. Her priorities were sadly lacking…..glitzy skimpy tops and a cute panda hat and gloves were all she felt she needed. After a lot of wrestling, I managed to empty her bag and stack it with warm clothing…TRAINERS [which she hadn’t packed!] warm jumpers, waterproof everything, sea-sickness meds, torches…….and more. I felt a little happier!

Saturday morning we were up with the birds and heading to the Albert Dock.

As Daughter boarded her bus I felt a DREADFUL pang, she would be out of touch with me for the next four or five days, something that has never happened in her entire life, as we speak at least once a day……my best mate she is!!!!

A quick pic and she was off! [She’s third from the bottom on the left]

So…..I got an email from her Saturday night, and she said the ship was fab, that she was now sailing on the Prolific, trackable by the IST site, and  that the people were lovely. Then she said that she was told not to worry about anything she hadn’t brought, as long as she had a towel……and of course she had NO towel. OOOOOPS!!!!

WHY didn’t I think of a towel????????? WHY???????

So far she’s still be-calmed in Dublin!!!!!!! Mmmmmmmmmmm……………….I’m going to be all of a jitter until she’s home!!!!

Moving on…….Sam crashed into my finger a couple of months ago leaving it horribly blackened and swollen. Eventually most of the swelling went down but I haven’t been able to bend it, so I finally went to the hospital to get it looked at. The Doctor was somewhat annoyed that I hadn’t come in sooner, and after poking and prodding it for a while announced that it had been broken and had now calcified! He decided not to re-break it, which I was grateful for, as it hurt enough the first time I broke it. Then he told me he had to cut my ring off!!!! NOPE screamed I, as Daughter had bought me the ring he wanted to destroy and she had engraved it with these words,

One ring to show our love, One ring to bind us, One ring to seal our love, And forever to entwine us.

I told him the ring had great sentimental value, he asked me if my finger had!!!! So he cut it off. And I sobbed!!!!!

That ring had never once left my finger in YEARS!!!! Anyway…..talking of broken things, Herbie, my special needs hedgehog who lives in a hutch in the garden, still has paralysed back legs, and they show no sign of improvement.

Shame, a real shame. I was hoping he might get his mobility back and be released.

Isn’t he a splendid little guy though?

Yesterday I was face-painting again for the rescue and had to laugh at this rottweiler sniffing a tiny little dog who was completely unfazed!!!

So that’s all folks as tonight I get to play in my Sister’s band at a private party so I had better get my guitar out and warm up!!!!

Great that you and your sister can jam together…. i used to play fiddle in a folk band and did love it… always think one day I’ll get another fiddle and take it up again as it is such an uplifting thing to do!

Lovely pictures of the dear little hoggies… bless their little hands!! sooooo cute…..

You sound as if you have a wonderfully well-rounded life – lots of work and lots of play too – 🙂

    xxxx

    • Ahhhh…thanks Arose….Daughter got back safely and LOVED the whole thing!

My Sis is the most fantastic violinist and it’s such fun to paly with her now and then, she was up my way palying for a MOST POSH wedding. You REALLT REALLY should get yourself another fiddle and get palying again, I’d love to be able to playy one….sooooo I’m sooooooooo jealous of you.
I love the little hog hands….gorgeous wee critters.

      I’m not sure I have a well-rounded anything…..lol….it’s just usually crazy and unpredictable.xxxxx

  4. What an eventful week. Ever had time to catch breath?

    • Lol, thanks Menhir. It has been a bit of a frantic week in one way or another, lots of extra shifts at the rescue and more face painting Saturday….then hopefully a bit of peace for a few days next week.xxxxxd

  5. What a wonderful experience for your daughter, something I would enjoy, even at my advanced years. I’m sure all will be well.
Shame about the ring, I do hope you manage to get it mended.
I think the hedgehog is wonderful, it’s a pity about it’s back legs.

    • Thanks Dessie. Daughter is due back today so I get the grand tour of a Tall ship….smashin! Hoping to see the Regatta sailing in too.xxx

  6. Seems to me about time that daughter got out of reach… even if you are best friends. It’s healthy to get separated from time to time. Let’s hope that she found someone to share a towel with, though.

    • I hope she manages to share a towel too!
It’s funny, technology makes communication so easy, email, skpe, texts and mobiles mean you never lose contact with people. Even though Daughter lives away and often goes abroad communication is still talways here. It seems it’s not on tall ships, so yes, a little weird. We have got in the habit of having our daily chat and catching up on each others news…….we’re not clingy with each other though, just close, trouble is we always have too much to say for ourselves…..lol xxxxxx

  7. Oh, so sweet. I hope daughter enjoys her trip and you enjoy the party! wow, you can play the guitar!!!!

    • Ahhhh, thanks Vahid. Daughter should be back soon unless the pirates have her!!!
I love my guitar, it alwys cheers me up having a good jamming. We were playing at a wedding and went down a treat. My sister is briliant on the violin and gets everyone dancing in minutes.xxxxxxxx

  8. Aww – 2 losses – daughter and your ring … daughter will be back soon, and you can take the ring to a jeweller and they will mend it for you  Hope dr has an AMAZING time on the ship … I am soooooooooooo jealous … why do they always want young people????

    Big hugs!

    • Thanks Gilly, I didn’t know you could have rings repaired…thanks for that, I’ll pop off to a jeweller. I’d be made up if it comes back complete again!

That’s such a good point about these opps always being for young people. Hubs and I said the exact same thing….so we asked if we could sail on the tall ships …..and the answer was YES…. We may have to pay but we can do it.
If you want more info google MAST or International Sail Training…..if no joy I’ll give you the guy’s phone number who organises it. We did see some oldies going on this trip which was a nice change.xxxxx

  9. I have a finger like that.. sorry about the ring…and poor hedgehog

    • Thanks Kath. Lovely to see you here.
The finger is a pain, I suppose I’ll have to get used to it not bending. Sorry to hear you have one too!xxxxx

  10. Aw ….. what a lovely post ~x~
