We haven’t had a drop of rain in weeks now and if it doesn’t rain soon I’ll have to get the hose-pipe out, a job I loathe as my hose is riddled with holes and watering all three gardens takes about four hours!

Honesty has self seeded all over the gardens this year, purple in the back garden and white in the front. I leave it be as I think it’s pretty, especially the little moon seedcases in the autumn.

The apple blossom is finally out, always the last of the fruit trees to bloom.

Acers in all their glorious colours are beginning to leaf out. They are dotted all across the gardens in pots and raised beds.

I know I post a photo of the cherry trees in our road every year but they really are lovely. When the blossom drops the road becomes a sea of confetti. We are the house on the right hand corner.

The last of the daffodils give way to the tulips now…

and just as the white magnolia begins to fade the purple varieties step in.

The front garden seems to be overflowing with white, pink and red blossom. The final cherry tree is in flower then sadly the show is over for another year.

All at the rescue are delighted to soon be able to admit birds into the wildlife unit again. Finally, the avian flu ban is about to be lifted just in time for the first chick arrivals. How sad it would have been to have to turn them away.

We also celebrated the opening of our brand new adoption hub, a place where dogs and potential adopters will be able to meet in peace and quiet.

And Finally…

I was recently asked to review two pet products. Firstly, the Forthglade plant based dental sticks. I can genuinely say that all three dogs loved them. They are a substantial size and take time to chew which hopefully means they are doing their job and cleaning teeth. To find out more click the link below.

Bio one pet odour remover is a wonderful vegan product that is diluted which means it certainly goes a long way. It’s also environmentally friendly and certainly works re pet odours, it also works on toddler toilet accidents. I would recommend it. To find out more, click on the Home link below.

  1. I bought a tan colored hose (Flexzilla) and love its suppleness and how it seems to swivel near the nozzle so that twisty knots and kinks don’t form and stop up the flow of water. Made all the difference in my hand-watering habits. Nevertheless, I hope you get the rain you need to avoid having that four-hour watering marathon. Four hours!

The purple honesty is so sweet. I’m glad you are letting it have its head in your garden. Enjoyed seeing your street with so many lovely cherry trees! We have jacarandas on our street, but many trees are not doing well this year.

Congrats on the new adoption hub! And welcoming back bird rescues. Lots going on with you!

  2. Hello there you !
What gorgeous flowers you have going there .. of course you are way ahead of me, but with what drenching rain we just had and a forecast of warm sun for the next week the garden will be sprinting along , while I just crawl ? LOL
I hear you about hand watering .. we have to go through an inspection each Spring before we can have our sprinkler system turned on … this year seems to be more of a wait.
I remember when we lived in Holland the streets of the village we lived were absolutely covered in those gorgeous pink petals .. I had never seen anything like it and was in love with it all.
Congratulations on being able to take the birds in now … the hub looks great and yes a peaceful quiet place is so important .
It is a very long story with how we have our girls … a lot of tears and then such love .. and now I feel as if Sophie approved of our journey .. we still miss her so much but it is becoming easier. We have loved many beautiful furry souls and have become better pet parents for it.
Thanks for stopping by ! 😉

  3. I confess I laughed at your comment about your hole-riddled hose. There’s a solution to that; I’ll bet you can figure it out! I finally bought myself one of those expandable hoses, and it’s stood up for two years. The best thing about it is that when it’s empty, it’s as light as a feather. I can hook it over my arm and carry it wherever I wish — no more lugging those heavy, ghastly hoses around.

It was fun to see a hedgehog again, and that adoption hub looks wonderful. I finally got myself clear on what ‘Honesty’ is. I’ve seen the seed cases, but never had figured out which flowers belonged to them. Now I know!

  4. Beautiful photographs and yes Spring has Sprung.. Although the yesterday when I went to a garden party..it was freezing!:)

We are all hoping for rain. My good friends in Santa Fe New Mexico are also desperate for rain….to put out the roaring wild fires. which surround them..!

Some people from Sydney were with me for my last workshop….and they have never seen so much rain there!

    One day at a time.

  5. Love all your honesty, most of mine came up white with just a few purple, wonder what will happen next year! Your Acer is gorgeous, I love their spring foliage almost as much as the autumn. Your garden must be looking very colourful at the moment with all your beautiful flowers.x

  6. Your garden is looking wonderful and giving me plenty of ideas because we are doing our autumn planting for next spring… in this upside-down world we live in! I never realised just how big your garden is….. good luck with watering all of that!
As is the way of the weird weather these days, we have had record autumn rainfall!
Lovely to have a place called the Adoption Hub, and I’m sure it will keep animals much calmer that some awful caged areas in the middle of a city or suburbia (where we got one of our best dogs.)
    Best wishes and happy spring.

Enjoy your coming summer. Great images. Getting cold down here.

I think your garden looks wonderful, I always like this time of year for the beautiful flowers and lovely blossom.

The new adoption hub looks good. and such a lovely idea.

Enjoy the weekend and my good wishes for the coming month of May 🙂

    All the best Jan

  9. I do love to see photos of your garden, it always looks so wonderful. Honesty is a new plant to me this year, I have seen it for a few years now and wondered what it was. I love to learn the names of few new, to me, plants each year and this is one of mine for this year. I am seeing it everywhere now!

Your road is wonderful, that cherry blossom is gorgeous. My neighbours have a cherry tree in their front garden I love it when it is in blossom, we are not there it is just in leaf.

The new adoption unit sounds like a wonderful idea, and the building looks great too.

  10. Superb pictures.

We had 2 weeks in April when the weather was pretty foul and very cold. Even so, there are reports that some of the rivers are low in water.

The rescue is expanding it’s role. Will you be assessing potential foster carers and potential adopters?

  11. Oh, the road looks so magical! And your own gardens are just stunning. I can’t believe what beauty your gardens share over the year’s course. The honesty looks perfect! And so sorry for your lack of rain. Our summer hours last year were spent watering in hellish heat for days on end. I hope your drought-like weather will turn soon!

So happy to see the new space for pup adoptions and hear that your avian flu has abated. Long live the rescue!

Joy, rain, and peace to you and your beloveds! XO

  12. A most enjoyable post and lovely pictures. I’ve already watered round the plot a couple of times.
Good to see cherry trees lining the road like that. xx

  13. It’s such a pity that the cherry blossom only lasts a short time. Ruby loves poultry flavoured dog toothpaste. The problem is getting it to her teeth before she licks it off the brush.

  14. Wifi keeps going on and off at the moment so I’m commenting when I can. Your garden and the road where you live is looking wonderful with so much happening growing-wise and all the blossoming trees plus self-seeded plants such as honesty, which I would welcome too. It’s good to hear the news about the Adoption Hub. I’m sure you’ll continue to be busy there and in the other areas of the rescue centre. Wishing you a good weekend.

  15. You garden is looking wonderful, as is your road. We used to have some Honesty in the garden, I don’t know what has happened to it as it seems to have disappeared over the years. Your new Adoption Hub is a lovely idea and those black lops look just like Hamish! I’m glad that Flockdown will be over in time for the chicks. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend. xx
