The barbaric practice of badger baiting.

How lucky am I…..to be this close to badgers! Sadly, I can’t reveal their location as there are those who continue to enjoy the persecution and torment of these beautiful creatures through the hideous practice of badger baiting.

Here they come……and me waiting with baited breath! Up to twelve badgers may emerge, coming to feed on the scraps from a restaurant. Badgers are not fussy, they ll eat anything from a full english breakfast, to a spag bol! These shy, retiring creatures often get drunk from eating over-ripe fruit!

Over 15 thousand badgers are killed each year in Britain, some think the number is over 20 thousand, as a result of badger baiting. Often, to disguise their activity, badger baiters leave the dead badgers on the road, to make it look like road kill. To my horror, I actually came across a skinned badger lately.

Badger baiting is illegal in Britain, now outlawed by the cruelty to animals act 1985, and also by the Protection of badgers act in 1982. Sadly this makes little difference.

Badger baiters set their dogs upon the badgers, and then sit back and enjoy the fight, which can last hours. Many badger baiters remove the animals teeth and claws to make the fight last even longer. I find it horrific how any person could behave in such a manner. They really are subhuman!

Anyway, these badgers are monitored and hopefully will remain safe, fingers and toes crossed…….
